    Su Refugio: Argentina Recap

    Community Gardening in Rafaela, Argentina

Earlier this month, Kevin Grangetto and his wife, daughter, and future son-in-law had the opportunity to join a short-term missions team in Rafaela, Argentina. They served vulnerable children and families for a week alongside Su Refugio Ministries, where Kevin serves as a board member.

During the week, the team shared the gospel with the community as they carried out various activities. Kevin led several gardening workshops where he taught local kids how to build garden boxes and grow their own vegetables. He also enjoyed teaching kindergarteners at Su Refugio Argentina Christian School how to plant seeds. It was wonderful to see the kids as they enjoyed learning how to garden!

The barrios around Rafaela are deeply affected by pervasive poverty and rampant crime, leaving many families in a state of brokenness and hardship. Su Refugio seeks to be a beacon of hope in this community, and one opportunity is to establish gardens where families can grow nutritious produce. Along with Su Refugio’s founder Scott Kvandal, Kevin met with Rafaela’s mayor to discuss the possibility of bringing community gardens to the barrios. They and municipal officials also visited a local organic farm to learn about their practices in sustainable gardening. Rafaela’s mayor has supported Su Refugio since its early days, and we are hopeful that the vision of community gardens for disadvantaged families will soon become a reality!
